Synopsis

This chapter focuses on the Regulatory Analysis of Energy Law and the Hydrogen Economy. The recent rise of hydrogen as a fundamental component of the world’s energy transition has demanded a significant change in energy law. Based on regulating fossil fuels, electricity markets, and grid infrastructure, energy law is in a transitional state as it seeks to accommodate hydrogen. This energy transmitter poses opportunities and challenges for current legal regimes. As countries transition towards decarbonising their energy systems, energy law must facilitate the incorporation of hydrogen into domestic energy systems and the efficient, safe, and sustainable production of hydrogen, its transmission, and distribution. This transition is integral to meeting wider environmental, economic, and geopolitical goals, such as energy security and carbon neutrality, and driving the innovation of clean technology. Energy theory broadly controls the production, transmission, distribution, and use of energy
